The main purpose of art is to:
- provide  aesthetic experiences
- develop pupils' imagination, creative and innovative thinking
- improve problem solving skills
- teach ways and means to explore phenomena
- develop self-confidence
- learn more about oneself, and to express one's own thoughts through the creative processes
- take into account ecological values and principles
- integrate art teaching into many school subjects and thus
- bring a new and inspiring perspective to other learning situations
- teach various art techniques applied to visual impairment

Ceramic coffee cups

A visit to an exhibition of ceramic coffee cups and pots inspired the pupils to create their own huge cups from clay.

Abstract art

Technique:
The figures are drawn on the soft Press Print board with an ordinary pen.
Colours are spread with a roller and a paper is placed on the board and pressed with hands to fasten the colour on the printing paper.

Technique: The pupils were given a description of Hugo Simberg's oil painting " A wounded angel". They created a detail of the painting "Angel's wing" clueing reeds, flower and thread on the white cardboard. In the pictures Hugo Simberg's original oil painting and pupil's art work  "Angel's wing".
Hare -exhibition

The art works of pupils of Jyväskylä school are exhibited in the Natural Museum of Central Finland.
The exhibition tells the public about the wild hare, its survival in the northern climate and  living conditions.
The pupils of Jyväskylä school were asked to produce art works for the exhibition. They made hares from felt, ceramic and used graphical methods.

Aims of the exhibition  in the Jyväskylä City Library 
- to encourage children with impairments to create and experience art
- to show that impairment is not an impediment in creating art
- art is an opportunity to improve quality of life

Technique: dry, empty tea bags, painted with pupils' own icons/logos with a black ink on the bags.

Technique:
Black tights filled with white tissue. Knots are use used to give form to the tights and black spay paint to add dark colour
